Essential Thailand Travel Tips

Everything first-time and returning visitors need to know for a smooth, safe, and amazing trip.

01

Best Time to Visit Thailand

November to February is the cool dry season and ideal for most of Thailand. The south splits into two coasts with opposite wet seasons β€” check which coast you're visiting. Avoid April–May which is the hottest period.

02

Visa Requirements

Most Western nationalities get a free 30-day visa on arrival (extendable to 60 days). In 2024, Thailand extended visa-free stays to 60 days for many countries. Always check the latest rules at the Thai Embassy website before traveling.

03

Getting Around Thailand

Domestic flights are cheap and cover major destinations. Overnight sleeper trains are great for Bangkok–Chiang Mai. Tuk-tuks and songthaews for short trips. Always use Grab (ride-hailing app) for metered pricing in cities.

04

Currency & ATMs

Thai Baht (THB) is the currency. ATMs are everywhere but charge a fee of 200–220 THB per withdrawal. Use a Wise or Revolut card to minimize fees. Credit cards are widely accepted in hotels and malls.

05

Temple Etiquette

Always cover your shoulders and knees when visiting temples. Remove shoes before entering. Never touch Buddha images or point feet toward them. Behave respectfully and speak softly inside temple grounds.

06

Book Hotels Early

High season (Dec–Feb) fills up fast, especially on the islands. We recommend booking through Agoda for the best rates and flexibility. Look for free cancellation options in case plans change.
